FPL Basics
FPL Captain and Vice-Captain Explained
Your captain is an important part of an FPL gameweek because the captain’s points are treated differently from your other players.
Choosing a captain
You select one player as captain before the gameweek deadline. The captain is usually chosen based on factors such as fixtures, expected minutes, attacking involvement and recent performances.
What does the vice-captain do?
The vice-captain is your backup. If your captain does not play at all in the gameweek, the vice-captain can take over the captain role under the game rules.
Fixture difficulty
Managers often compare the opponent, home or away status and the player’s role before choosing a captain.
Do not ignore minutes
A highly attractive fixture is less useful if a player is unlikely to start. Expected minutes are an important part of captain selection.
