Your FPL bench contains substitute players who can come into your starting XI according to the game’s rules when a starter does not play.
How the bench works
Your squad includes starting players and substitutes. The order of your substitutes matters because automatic substitutions can use that order when eligible.
Why the bench matters
A strong bench can protect your team when a starter unexpectedly does not play. However, spending too much of your budget on substitutes can reduce the quality of your starting XI.
Think about minutes
Bench players who are unlikely to play offer less protection. Managers often look for affordable players with a reasonable chance of getting minutes.
Set your bench order
Before the deadline, check that your substitute order makes sense. Also make sure your formation remains valid if an automatic substitution occurs.
